The full SWARP platform on swarp.nl: a home screen of apps — nine cards, twenty-three apps — that together form one fabric, from your blueprint to your neighbourhood.

documentation in four layers · swarp.nl · Leiden, 12 Sept 2026

This is not a flat manual but documentation in four layers, for four readers: whoever uses it, whoever wants to grasp the idea, whoever builds it, and whoever wants to go further. Each layer carries a label saying how long it lasts.

enduringOutlives a rebuild — the idea, the threads, the rules. Whoever rebuilds SWARP reads this as the brief.
tracks the codeDescribes how it is built right now — the apps, their routes, the engines. The app list comes straight from the code's registry (shared/app-registry.ts) and is guarded by a drift check.

Layer 1 — for the user1What you do with it — the apps tracks the code

On swarp.nl you log in with a magic link by email (no password) and land on the home screen: nine cards of apps. A new account starts with Profile, AYYA360 and Community; in the App Store you switch apps on or off. Every app answers one question — shown in italics below. Domain apps also carry their thread name from the fabric (layer 2). App names are given as they appear on the Dutch platform.

Layer 2 — for the thinker2The idea & the philosophy enduring

SWARP is a bottom-up citizen system: the goal is that you know what is happening locally and can find the people around you — per neighbourhood and town. Everything begins with the person, not the institution.

The image the platform carries is the loom. Each domain is a thread with its own role in the fabric, and the thirteen threads together make the cloth. The names are not decoration — they say what a thread does:

  • Source (AYYA360) — the primordial light, the blueprint from which everything begins
  • Warp (Politics) — the fixed lengthwise threads of local democracy
  • Weft (Work) — the moving thread through the structure
  • Spool (Kids) — the core around which the yarn winds
  • Spark (Academy) — knowledge transfer as spark-jump
  • Prism (PoC) — one person through a prism
  • Spectrum (Meaning) — one light, many colours
  • Dew (Health) — recovery and morning light
  • Pattern (Atelier) — the visible image the fabric shows
  • Knot (Hobby) — the playful braid in the thread
  • Warp Beam (Home) — the beam from which all threads originate
  • Test Thread (Lab) — the thread you test first
  • Fabric (Community) — what emerges when everything meets

Beneath the threads lie two modelling choices that carry the whole platform and are not dropped without a decision: octonion cosmology with the free-energy principle (FEP) as the modelling foundation, and the nilpotent Rowlands kernel (Ψ²=E²−p²−m²) as a hard constraint: every change of state — by a human or by the platform agent AIDEN — must pass the same gate, with the same signature. That is code, not a prompt; it keeps human and machine symmetric.

  1. 1Bottom-up. The citizen is central; an institution (council information, a source) is a possible supplier, not a dependency.
  2. 2No dead-end screens. Every meaningful token — a thread, a colour, a party, a municipality, a type — links on to a deeper place. A dead end snaps the thread the user follows.
  3. 3One concept, one source. The same concept has its truth in one place; everything else reads. A second mutable source beside a canonical one is an architectural fault, not a convenience.
  4. 4Postcode is the truth of place. Where you are follows from your postcode (via PDOK); loose municipality or district columns are shadows.
  5. 5The gate is symmetric. Human and AIDEN pass the same nilpotent guard; rejected changes are recorded per axis (BLUE/RED/GREEN/YELLOW).

Extended is the fabric as a whole; the other members of the family are parts of it that came to stand on their own feet: the MAZE-Bank (the book of the circle), Weather (the outer weather), Living Environment (the map of your place), Support (the human side), and the MAZE (the memory everything rests on).

Layer 3 — for the builder3How it works — the software tracks the code

Extended is one process: an Express 5 server serving the API and the React 18 app (Wouter, TanStack Query, Tailwind, shadcn/ui) from one monorepo. About 117 routers — one per feature — and some 200 pages; shared code in shared/, with the data model per thread (shared/schema/<thread>.ts) and the loom narrative for the AI prompts.

The engines

  • App registry — shared/app-registry.ts is the source of the home screen: nine categories, the apps, their routes; what an account has switched on lives in user_settings.activeApps. Layer 1 above reads straight from that registry.
  • Hub engine — one polymorphic table hubs (world × scale × slug) powers all 8 worlds × 3 scales; no bespoke tables per world.
  • Nilpotent kernel — server/nilpotent-kernel/: the Rowlands algebra, the HD-fermion projection and the rewrite/guard machine every state change passes through (runGuarded).
  • AIDEN — the autonomous platform agent (server/system-agent.ts) with the same guard as the human.
  • FEP-Schank learning loop — navigation learns from use: route tags (PoC, RIASEC, thread vector), a next-step predictor and the guide "Swarpie".
  • Postcode resolver — GET /api/postcode/:pc4 with PDOK as fallback; the only source of place.
  • Login — the magic link by email only (Resend); session shared across the family on .swarp.nl.
  • For agents — an MCP server and a small SDK (mcp-server/, sdk/).

Building and running

npm run dev (development), npm run build + npm start (production, one bundle), npm run check (types), npx vitest (tests). Schema changes go as idempotent raw-SQL startup migrations under an advisory lock — the database is shared with Support and Weather, so db:push deliberately does not run in the build. Deployed on Render as service swarp, domain swarp.nl.
